Manipur Tourism
Manipur is a little paradise on earth with its exotic scenery of fertile plains surrounded by green mountains. Its graceful Manipuri dance and unique handloom textiles makes the state a fascinating tourist destination. Imphal, the capital city of Manipur is endowed with a few lovely lakes and a war memorial. The state is also having an amiable climate and a wealth of wild life. The unique tourist attractions of the state include lovely lakes, beautiful landscapes, historic monuments and graceful dances. The major tourist centres and its attractions are as given below :

Imphal

Imphal, the capital of Manipur is located at the centre of the Manipur valley. It is the nerve centre of all cultural, commercial and administrative activities of the state. The tourist attractions in and around Imphal are -

i) Langthaband - A historical place with temples and ceremonial houses.

ii) Saheed Minar - A monument to honour martyr who sacrificed their life in the National Freedom Movement.

iii) Khonghampat Orchid Yard - An orchid yard with over 110 varieties of orchids.

iv) Loktak Lake and Kelibul Lamjao National Park - The largest fresh water lake in the North Eastern region with the only floating national park of its kind. The National Park is on an island inside the lake. The lake has colourful water plants and provides facilities for boating and fishing. The National Park is the last natural habitat of Sangai, the dancing deer of Manipur, Hog-deer, Otter and a host of migratory birds.

v) War Cemeteries - Monuments of those Japanese who died during the world war.

vi) INA Memorial at Moirang - A place where India's tri-colour flag was hosted by Netaji during second world war.

Ukhrul

Ukhrul is the highest hill station in the state and is located about 83 kms. from Imphal. The place has abundant scenic beauty and good climate.

Mao

It is another hill station in the state and is located between Imphal and Dimapur in Nagaland.

Tamenglong

It is a place of outstanding natural beauty with deep gorges, caves and water falls as well as orchids and oranges.
